Some sneaky country musicians have been composing songs with smart, hidden references – or outright mentions – of cannabis throughout the years. As country fans, we are very well-informed regarding this herb. Willie Nelson made sure of that – he is a big, vocal supporter of marijuana legalization nationwide.
Whether or not you like it, you have to admit that there’s something just a little but captivating about the songs that valorize cannabis, like the ones listed below.
1. It’s All Going to Pot – Willie Nelson & Merle Haggard
The country icons worked together on this track for their 2015 duet record Django and Jimmie. The song was launched on April 20th.
2. Smoke A Little Smoke – Eric Church
At first, Church’s record company had not been delighted with the subject matter of this song, but it was a huge hit for the rebel musician.
3. Follow Your Arrow – Kacey Musgraves
The Texas-born talent’s lines“When the straight and narrow/Gets a little too straight/Roll up a joint, or don’t/Just follow your arrow wherever it points” are totally consistent with her edgy character.
4. Sun Daze – Florida Georgia Line
This duo break free from the boredom of the usual work week by completely burying themselves in several distractions – including weed.
5. Hush Hush – Pistol Annies
This song is about the stuffiness often observed within a small town life. It pops noteworthy lyrics like, “So I snuck out behind the red barn/And I took myself a toke/Since everybody here hates everybody here/Hell I might as well be the joke.” From the music video, you could see Ashley Monroe slip away to blast a joint with a bearded guy.
Needless to say, these five songs are just a little part of blazing songs within this genre. Did we skip your preferred song to light a joint to?
