Eleven-year-old Brianna Cooper is a well-mannered fifth grader from Fort Pierce, FL. However, when her science teacher started bullying her classmate, Brianna got hold of her phone and began recording the abuse. She believed that she was doing the right thing. However, the school’s approach to the situation shocked her mother.
Brianna’s recording revealed the stunning truth. Without a doubt, her teacher was busted berating her other classmate. “Biggest kid in 5th grade and you’re acting like the smallest one,” the teacher said. “I wonder what your mom looks like.” However, it didn’t end there. The teacher also spelled out frightening threats. “Don’t let the size fool you. I will drop you.”
The fifth grader gave her recording over to her other teacher, just to be called to the principal’s office. Fortunately, the teacher involved was dismissed for verbally mistreating her student. Even so, Brianna’s mother Cassie was surprised to find out that Brianna was also given a punishment. The school suspended her for five days, as covertly documenting a teacher is against the law in the state of Florida.
The school contended that teachers should still have their privacy within the classroom, but Cassie argues that Brianna was simply too young to be aware of the law and in the end did the best thing.
Whenever students are prompted to keep their mouths shut when they witness something completely wrong like this, Brianna’s supporters believe that it will do more damage than good.
