10 years after the death of his father, a 14-year-old boy followed in his dad’s footsteps and took the stage at the Grand Ole Opry.

This hard to find video presents a look into Hank Williams Jr.’s very early origins and displays the amount of talent that was passed down to him by his legendary father. The beginning years for the artist were packed with shows featuring him performing his father’s songs and even copying the exact same style. It had not been until quite a few years later that the gifted musician would grow more and develop his very own style and voice.

At an Opry performance in 1963, Ed Sullivan presented him by name and mentioned his relation to the late Hank Williams. “Let’s have a fine welcome for this youngster!” he announced.

Without missing a beat, the teen Bocephus began performing “Your Cheatin’ Heart” with an extraordinary vocal accuracy and tone. He really is a talented artist and that shows in each and every way throughout this show.

The song was recorded by Hank Williams Sr. back in September, 1952, but it had not been released until soon after his unforeseen death in 1953. A year later, when his son played the hit song on the Opry Stage, his recording was used in a biopic movie about his father’s life.

See the video recording below to check out the young Hank Williams Jr. and his early beginning as a country music artist!

LYRICS

Your cheatin’ heart
Will make you weep
You’ll cry and cry
And try to sleep
But sleep won’t come
The whole night through
Your cheatin’ heart
Will tell on you

When tears come down
Like falling rain
You’ll toss around
And call my name
You’ll walk the floor
The way I do
Your cheatin’ heart
Will tell on you

Your cheatin’ heart
Will pine some day
And crave the love
You threw away
The time will come
When you’ll be blue
Your cheatin’ heart
Will tell on you

When tears come down
Like falling rain
You’ll toss around
And call my name
You’ll walk the floor
The way I do
Your cheatin’ heart
Will tell on you
