Country music star Michael Ray took the Grand Ole Opry’s stage for a wonderful performance of country icon Merle Haggard’s “Today I Started Loving You Again” in May of 2016.

The “Kiss You in the Morning” singer went up on the stage together with his acoustic guitar and a handful of charm. With these, he gave a beautiful performance of this classic country song. Although Michael typically has a very modern sound to his songs, he had no trouble evoking the timeless country feel of “Today I Started Loving You Again.”

“Today I started loving you again,” Michael sings. “I’m right back where I’ve really always been. I got over you just long enough to let my heartache mend, then today I started loving you again.”

The song was composed by Haggard and initially released from his No.1 hit album, The Legend of Bonnie and Clyde, way back in 1968. This was roughly 50 years before Michael’s performance at the Opry.
